The Art of Journal Making: Finding our Story through Journey, Adventure and Discovery

Instructor Mary Scrimgeour                                        May 23 to May 29, 2010

  1. In this class you will see the importance of observation, experience creating in an inspirational environment and will how to use your journal or sketchbook to create paintings from. You will experience the thrill of wandering through old, beautiful medieval villages, taking time to sit, sketch, think and discuss. Through this process of exploring, observing and recording in our books, we will discover our story from which we create paintings. Every painting has a personal narrative. It is through observation that we learn how to find our story and create art that is meaningful and satisfying on many levels. I will share with you my process for creating art, and my way of finding inspiration and staying inspired. Each participant will create a series of paintings and complete exercises that will loosen up the creative process. There will be one-on-one instruction as well as demonstrations.
